Six rental car companies are available on-site at Melbourne Airport, located on the ground floor of the airport Terminal Car Park at Terminal 1, 2 & 3 (directly opposite Terminal 2). Each car rental company is accessible via the walkways from the Terminals, and returns through the Terminal Car Park at Terminal 1, 2 & 3. Search and compare the best deals to suit your travel needs.

Melbourne City Transport Options

myki card

Buy a Myki smartcard for flexible travel between trains, trams and buses. You’ll be able to use public transport in and around the city for just a few hours or all day. In the Free Tram Zone, you don’t need to use your Myki card. Plan your trip, buy or top up your Myki card online and download maps and timetables from Public Transport Victoria. A physical Myki card can be purchased and topped up at railway stations, some tram stops and 7-Eleven stores.

Tram

The city and inner suburbs are best viewed by tram, a unique Melbourne way to travel. Melbourne’s city centre is built in a grid, which the trams cover extremely well. The City Circle Tram is a free tram service around central Melbourne taking passengers past some of Melbourne’s major attractions. The Free Tram zone includes the city centre and extends from Queen Victoria Market to Docklands, Spring Street, Flinders Street Station and Federation Square. Monash College is situated within the Free Tram Zone.

Train

All Metlink Trains arrive and depart from Flinders St. Station and use the same met card as the trams and buses. The train network is extensive and includes lengthy suburban routes and an underground city loop.

Bus

Melbourne buses run frequently to major hubs, including shopping centres, schools, hospitals, leisure and sports venues, and some of Melbourne’s biggest attractions. For people travelling further afield, Victoria’s V/Line service gives access to regional towns and scenic attractions across the state.

Cycling

Cycling is a great way to get around the city as well as keep fit. The City of Melbourne’s cycling network has over 135 km of on and off road routes.
